“Come to me all who are burdened and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit bringing sin into God’s perfect creation. They experienced an immediate separation from God, and from that moment, all of creation began longing for redemption.
In the Old Testament, prophets spoke about a coming Messiah - the One who would redeem and restore. They must have wondered why God was waiting so long, and perhaps even doubted whether a savior would ever truly come. From where we stand, thousands of years later, we often stand in judgement of the Old Testament people as we piece together some reasons for God’s timing for His people. But are we any different? We KNOW the rest of the story…at least to this point. Yet, given all we know, we still carry the burden of our sins and shortfalls. God sent Jesus in redemption for our sin, yet, we still choose to be weighed down with the same sin and darkness known to the Old Testament people.
We clearly see that God wasn't a moment late in sending Jesus. He knew the perfect timing to send His Son to redeem mankind, but situations in our own life may not always make sense from our vantage point. We sin, we struggle, we ask forgiveness, but we CHOOSE to continue to carry our shortfalls. It is in those moments that we inhibit the grace, love, and forgiveness that Jesus gives, from not only taking place in our own life, but for allowing others to SEE the redemption freely bestowed to us. God’s timing, love, and grace are an immeasurable gift…all we have to do is accept it. We then allow others to see God’s love. In the redemption process, however, we are reminded that as children of God, we must then be willing to share that same grace and redemption with others. It is, indeed, the gift that keeps on giving!
IronMaker’s Daily Challenge: Is there a sin in your life for which you have asked forgiveness and still hang on to? Write it down on a piece of paper. Tear it up and throw it away.
Prayer: Most Gracious Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of redemption through Your Son. Help me to remember your timing is perfect – in my life, in the world, both in life and in death, in life eternal. Amen.
